Myrna Barakat Friedman is an independent commercial arbitrator and mediator with over 25 years’ experience structuring and leading the execution of domestic and cross-border business combinations, financings and securities offerings. She is the President and a Founding Member of the Association of Commercial and Transactional ADR Professionals – ACT-ADR.
Myrna serves as a neutral on a broad range of commercial disputes involving professional services, contract interpretation, commercial transactions, mergers/acquisitions and post-M&A matters, strategic business sales, private equity transactions, fundraising, real estate, cybersecurity, crypto and online exchange platforms, insurance, telecommunications, financing and banking transactions, securities and financial structures. She has been appointed as Chair, Sole Arbitrator, Co-Arbitrator and Appellate Arbitrator to cases involving a broad range of commercial and financial matters, including matters under the AAA, ICC, CPR and FINRA rules.
Myrna has completed transactions globally as a M&A and securities lawyer at Sullivan & Cromwell, as Chief M&A Counsel and, subsequently, Managing Director-Corporate Development at CIT Group, and as the founder of MBCAP, a boutique strategic growth advisory company. She brings to her ADR practice a unique mix of legal, corporate and business experience and a firsthand commercial understanding of the operational and financial intricacies of the most complex matters.
Myrna is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. She is trained in both civil and common law and is trilingual- English, French and Arabic.
